The Blacklist season 5 episode 7 spoilers: Dembe states his case
By and large, the Dembe character is the strong, silent type — however, on this episode you will see him stand up to his longtime friend Reddington for the sake of undergoing a dangerous mission. He wants to infiltrate an international human trafficking operation in order to help take them down, and the sneak peek CarterMatt has for you below offers up more insight as to why this matters so much to him.
Dembe is a man who knows what it’s like not have a voice and feel marginalized; he looks at this as an opportunity for him to represent something greater, and allow some of these people to have hope for the future much in the way that Reddington once gave him his own essence of hope. He may not exactly have the safest existence known to mankind at the moment, but it’s far better than how he could have ended up and he knows this. He looks towards this mission as an opportunity to help others have a future.
The best moment of this preview to us is that this is further evidence of how much Reddington cares about Dembe, and in turn how much Dembe cares about him. They’re both worried (in their own way) about the aftereffects of what this mission could be. For Dembe, he’s concerned that if something happens to him it will impact Reddington’s operation. Meanwhile, Reddington doesn’t want to lose Dembe (to be fair – none of us want to lose Dembe!)
Dembe will take on this mission regardless of whether or not Reddington wants him to. Consider this storyline a chance to learn more about how he operates and communicates, especially without having James Spader’s character around. The moment this character became a regular part of the show we had a feeling that it was for episodes like this.
How will the rest of the Task Force be involved in this episode? Let’s just say that when communication is lost between Dembe and Reddington, they are going to make a decision to act. Odds are, this will move towards a chaotic (and hopefully satisfying) finish.
