This Is Us season 2 episode 5 preview: What’s next for Kate and Toby?

When This Is Us season 2 episode 5 airs on NBC in one week’s time, you will get an emotional episode entitled “Brothers.” So what is coming over the course of it? We’re sure that it will be a story of siblings (namely Kevin and Randall), but there is so much more going on here given what just transpired at the end of Tuesday’s episode.

At the end of tonight’s episode we learned officially that Kate is six weeks pregnant, and moving into episode 5 the big question is how she is going to tell Toby the news. Based on what we’re seeing now via NBC, she is not going to waste a whole lot of time.

This Is Us season 2 episode 5 synopsis – “Kate surprises Toby at work. Kevin and Randall attend a charity fundraiser for Sophie’s hospital. Jack takes the boys on a camping trip, leaving Rebecca to deal with some unexpected news.”

There are so many different things that this reveal could lead to, and there are also so many questions and debates that Kate probably will have. What makes this a good reveal through the lens of this particular show is that This Is Us does do such a good job telling stories that are appealing from a parental perspective, and she does have a parental figure in Rebecca that she can seek out to discuss what is going on with her. She can look towards her childhood for answers and understanding about her own future and how she wants to move forward following this big reveal. For Chrissy Metz, we’re absolutely excited given that this is such a game-changer and we’re very interested in seeing how this all plays out.

The Kevin/Randall story seems to be coming courtesy of the charity fundraiser, and while we’d love to take a deep breath and say that nothing bad will probably happen here, that’s not the way that This Is Us often works. We really should be prepared for everything in the known world to go wrong just because it often does, and these two will have to sort their way out of it.

Based on the promo below, you should be prepared for more trouble when it comes to Kevin’s addiction and then also another touching Pearson family moment.
