One of the things that we’re noticing moving into Blue Bloods season 8 episode 3 is that the producers are really milking their new Mayor! They now have Lorraine Bracco on board as Mayor Dutton, and with that there are clearly plans in order to use her for however as much as they possibly can. She’s been a component of the first two episodes, and on Friday night she will be around once again.
At the core of the story for Frank Reagan at the moment is a public safety initiative that he is working to get off the ground, and it’s something that he even describes as a “gift” to her. He’s trying to do things that he believes help the people of New York, but could be looked at as a notch in the Mayor’s belt in one form or another. However, it’s unfortunate that she doesn’t quite see it the same way.
So is there a way that we’re going to see Frank get around this? Well, it’s not featured in the episode, but he may be able to get around her potential veto with some help from some other people within this episode. This may be in part why you’re going to have a chance to see Whoopi Goldberg stop by again. One of the things that Frank does have going for him is a number of people across the city who he has worked with. While the majority of them may not agree on anything and everything under the sun, there is often some element of common ground and mutual understanding that can be worked from in order to reach some sort of conclusion. Let’s just hope that this lasts now for the remainder of the season, since if Dutton starts to use some of her own contacts against Frank he could find himself in a position where he’s not able to get all that much that he wants done.
For us at CarterMatt, one thing that we know for sure is that we do like that there are some complicated dynamics going on within the NYPD and the Mayor’s office — and that we’re getting to see them as opposed to just hearing about them. That makes for a far better show.
