Scandal season 7 episode 1 video: Enter Quinn Perkins and Associates

Quinn Perkins and Associates

Scandal season 7 episode 1 is almost here (who’s excited?), and to go along with that, the same can be said for Quinn Perkins and Associates. The show will be coming full-circle on many different things in its final season, and one of those may just be touching in on the original mission of Olivia Pope and Associates. Remember back when it was actually about fixing problems and helping powerful people — regardless of whether or not they were deserving of said help? We could be going back to that, at least to a certain extent, while also touching on some new dimensions of owning a business like this.

For the newly-minted Quinn Perkins and Associates, one of the biggest problems is simply that without Olivia Pope around, there is no name value here. This is what David points out to Quinn and Abby in the new sneak peek below; Olivia was the brand, and without her they don’t have the Rolodex or the reputation. Washington DC is a place where much of your success is dependent on the people you know, and that’s something that Quinn is going to have to adjust to. She’s now Olivia; as a matter of fact, anonymity was one of her biggest assets for a time. She and Huck could go undercover or hide out without being recognized.

The light at the end of the tunnel for Quinn and Abby comes in the form of a living, breathing customer at the end of the sneak peek, someone seeking out (hopefully) some sort of help. If they do a good job with this client word could spread; if they botch the mission, everything could crumble in a split-second.

So where’s Olivia? If you haven’t heard she is serving as the new Chief of Staff for Mellie Grant, and should be reveling in her new status and opportunities that it affords her. She now holds more power than she ever has on the show, and that means opportunities to do either great things or horrible things. The legacy of Olivia Pope is going to be one of the interesting things to watch in this final season. We’ve seen her have the capacity to be heroic, kind, and caring, but you also have to worry that she is her father’s daughter and could turn to the dark side in a moment’s notice. We’ve seen time and time again what happened to Rowan when he had power; in theory, this could also happen with her.

You can get a sense of everything we are discussing here within the synopsis for Thursday’s premiere:

“One hundred days into Mellie’s presidency, Olivia Pope is proving she can run the world; but to avoid an international incident, she may have to make her toughest call yet. Meanwhile, Quinn Perkins & Associates struggle to find their first client.”
