Supergirl season 3 spoilers: First photo of Samantha Arias, Reign’s alter ego
Who is this character through the lens of her National City home? Based on the information that is out there, Samantha Arias is a fairly normal woman trying to make ends meet. She is a single mom, and you can see in the photo below, she does care deeply for those who are close to her. What is very interesting about the character is that it’s not often that you get to see a superhero world through the eyes of someone who appears at first to be rather ordinary. Granted, we know that eventually, this could not be further from the truth.
How the show chooses to develop Odette Annable as this character is going to be a huge component in the story for this season, given that you have to build it at a speed where nobody starts to suspect anything strange is happening with Samantha at first. Over time, more of her true powers and feelings are going to become clear to her, as will what could ultimately be defined as her destiny. She will uncover that she is a Worldkiller, an extremely dangerous alien who can threaten Supergirl in ways that few others can. Will she embrace that, that or will it not ultimately matter one way or another? That’s something else that the show may choose to explore given that in the end, evil is evil. She’s still someone that may need to be stopped, and the team then has to figure out the right way to do that.
This introduces what could be another interesting wrinkle to the story — if some of these characters know Samantha Arias, will they still believe that she is buried down somewhere deep in there? Will they ignore what she’s capable of as Reign and try to extract the good once more? It’s a very different villain than we’ve seen before on Supergirl, which is by and large what makes her such an interesting addition to the fold. She’s going to be threatening, but she doesn’t start out that way. As a matter of fact, she may be at first glance the most relatable character on the entire show.
