The Flash season 4 episode 1 spoilers: A different Barry Allen revealed

Flash season 4 episode 1

After many months of ambiguity, The CW is finally starting to share some details regarding The Flash season 4 episode 1. What do we think is coming up? Well, judging from some of the latest details via the network, we’re going to have a chance to see Barry Allen back … with the main problem being that it’s not the same Barry Allen the team remembers.

What’s different? This is one of the major questions at the heart of “The Flash Reborn,” as the Barry who comes out of the Speed Force is going to be called upon to be a hero, really regardless of if he is ready for that role or not. For a little more info, just take a look at the synopsis below:

“With Barry (Grant Gustin) in the speed force, Iris (Candice Patton), Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale), Joe (Jesse L. Martin) and Vibe (Carlos Valdes) have taken over protecting Central City. However, when a powerful armored villain threatens to level the city if The Flash doesn’t appear, Cisco makes a risky decision to break Barry out of the speed force. However, the Barry that comes out isn’t the same Barry that went in. Glen Winter directed the episode with story by Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Todd Helbing & Eric Wallace (#401). Original airdate 10/10/2017.”

Creatively, there are a number of familiar faces within this synopsis — Winter is a frequent director on the show and the entire CW superhero universe, while Kreisberg and Helbing are basically the two guys responsible for running the show at this point. They want to start the season off big, and by introducing a new dimension of Barry, they may be doing that. However, the one thing that we would caution them on is doing so much to the Barry character that he doesn’t feel familiar anymore. Just remember that we’ve already met Flashpoint Barry in addition to tortured Barry in season 2 with Zoom and also the more lighthearted version of the character we had during the first season. We love that the show is smart, but it also shouldn’t get overly complicated.

One person who is not mentioned in this synopsis is The Thinker, the new Big Bad who is coming up as played by Neil Sandilands. The character was actually first teased back during season 3, and he’s been set up to be one of the most intelligent rivals to the team that they’ve ever encountered. He will use his brainpower to challenge everyone on the team, and the results of some of his plots could be catastrophic.
