Law & Order: SVU season 19: Don’t expect Rollins – Carisi relationship

Do we believe that the two parties are going to have some great material coming up in the new season? Absolutely. As a matter of fact, we even reported previously that the two are going to find themselves at odds with some other members of the team for an upcoming episode. They will continue to share great scenes together, but when it comes to showrunner Michael Chernuchin’s view on the pair, it seems to be that he is not holding a candle to the idea of the two of them being together in the near future.

In the event you do want some additional insight on that subject, all you need to do is take a look at what he had to say to Entertainment Weekly:

“I see them as buddy cops … If you were doing a buddy cop movie, that’s what they’ll be. I mean, they’ll get closer too, but romantically, I don’t think so.”

Of course, we do absolutely sense some disappointment out there, and for good reason given that these characters are among the most beloved people on the show with many people. Yet, we also do think that there is merit in going in this direction. Sometimes, crime shows do need pairs who are just good friends and don’t end up becoming romantic partners. There is something interesting about those relationships, and something that SVU has a series has always steered rather clear of is a ton of workplace romances. They could do so much more than what they’ve decided to, and in some ways their restraint is admirable.

Beyond anything, what we want to see here at CarterMatt for this relationship is an opportunity to see the two of them tested as colleagues, where one finds themselves in deep trouble and the other has to do whatever they can in order to save the other one. This is the sort of stuff that brings people together, and causes them to feel even more like their bond exists far beyond just solving cases together. We already know that it does, but on a show that is often procedural where you get a different case every different week, it’s hard to sometimes focus on the specifics of various relationships.

Given that SVU is a long season, hopefully there are several different episodes you see before the finale that expand and develop this bond more so than we’ve seen it already.

Now, your take
