America’s Got Talent finalist spotlight: How Light Balance can win

For the second straight year, we are here to kick off one of our favorite article series: The America’s Got Talent finalist spotlights. There are ten people now in the running for the grand prize, but only one of them can win. Can any of them, including Light Balance. take home the grand prize? You can debate that if you’d like in the comments, but we’re assuming within this series that they can.

Today, we at CarterMatt are going to look more extensively at the unique light-dancing group, who are the only non-singing act this season to get one of the signature Golden Buzzers. Tyra Banks made it clear from the jump this season that she believed in them, and from there, they’ve best to pay some of that belief forward. They had that technical snafu in the quarterfinal show, but they are coming off of an epic semifinal show that was a lot of fun and showcased everything that they can do. This takes timing, engineering, and so much more in order to completely pull off. They’re one of the best groups of this kind that we’ve seen over the years.

Their strengths – Slick choreography, fun routines, and an experience that is totally different. There are so many serious acts this season with dark, serious stories; while we know that these guys have overcome a lot to be on the show themselves, they also do still have a great sense of passion and joy about them with what they do. You never feel as though you’re being weighed down too much with their performance. It makes you smile, and in 2017 that means a lot.

What do they need to watch out for? – Figure out a way to do something totally different. All of their routines have been high-energy and fun, but they also could feel a little similar if you were to watch them one right after the next. We’d go this coming time for something a little more thematic; you can keep the tone what it is, but maybe give a routine with a hopeful message about friendship, family, or something else told through dance? They may need something to rise to another level.

How they win – If they do what we suggested above, and get a spot on the show that isn’t one of the first few out of the gate, they do have a shot. Their biggest obstacle will be mostly working to overcome the fact that dance groups really don’t win this show, and that they haven’t had the spotlight of some of the other people. They may need a contingent of voters who are just tired of singers to rally behind them if they want to have a genuine chance. We can see them making the top five, but they may be longshots for the top three.
