While the title for this NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 episode 2 article may sound at first ridiculous, remember some of the early Deeks talk out there! There were some initial reports that with the arrival of Nia Long as the new Executive Assistant Director Shay Mosley, there would also be a splitting up of the team. She’s going to have some hesitation in trusting anyone outside of the NCIS office (even if he’s practically a part of it at this point), so Eric Christian Olsen’s character may have to prove himself to her more than some other people will in the early going.
Here’s the one big of good news that we do have at this very moment: You’re going to be seeing more of Deeks with the team in 9×02, after all! NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 episode 2 is entitled “Assets,” and while we may not know too much about the episode just yet, the attached photo shows Deeks alongside Sam and Callen. The presence of Sam is also equally important, given that within the premiere, he is going to show some hesitancy about rejoining the team. He’s fallen into an understandable depression after the death of his wife Michelle. It’s almost impossible to move forward after something that alters your life on the level that this would. Nonetheless, he’s going to do his best, and the good news is that he will have a lot of strong, supportive people around him in order to also lend a helping hand.
In terms of specific character stories, the “Assets” synopsis below doesn’t offer up all that much:
“During the murder investigation of a Navy Lieutenant on leave in Los Angeles, the NCIS team uncovers classified surveillance briefs she smuggled into the city that may have been sold to a foreign buyer.”
Our initial reaction at CarterMatt upon reading this is somewhat along the lines of “yep, that feels very much like a typical synopsis for this show.” There’s nothing in here in the way of significant surprises, and you’re going to get what appears to be a standard case. Will there be more to it than first meets the eye? Probably, and that’s a big part of the fabric of this show. They do like to come up with ways to surprise you here and there, and we presume that this episode will be no different in the end. It’ll just also have enough of the familiar DNA so that it doesn’t feel like you are watching a different show in any way from the one that you’ve had a chance to see in the past.
