Game of Thrones season 7 finale title is ‘The Dragon and the Wolf’

Dragon and the Wolf

While “The Dragon and the Wolf” sounds very much like the name of an Aesop fable, it also just so happens to be the Game of Thrones season 7 finale title.

HBO confirmed this news today, along with some additional information that without the opening preview or the “After the Episode” clips, this installment will officially run just under 80 minutes. This makes it longer by about nine minutes than this past episode “Beyond the Wall,” which does make some sense given that there is so much that needs to be addressed in this finale.

For example, we’ve got potentially one of the biggest meetings of the minds that we have seen in Westeros to date. Jon Snow and Cersei are hitting the negotiating table, and we certainly feel as though Daenerys will be involved in some form. The goal here seems to be finding a way, if possible, to get everyone on the same page in regards to destroying the White Walker army. The biggest mistake that Jon and company may make here is assuming that Cersei is 1) human and 2) cares at all about stopping the White Walkers. This is a woman very much intent on just causing chaos, and she may not feel like she has humanity’s best interest at heart after having so many things happen to her.

There are a couple of different theories for the episode’s title — maybe this is evidence of something big happening between Jon and Daenerys, or it could also be a reference to Jon’s own secret parentage finally getting out in the open — if that happens, you certainly better believe that it will impact the relationship that he’s forced with the latest Queen of Dragonstone.

How were the latest ratings?

We didn’t touch on this earlier, but “Beyond the Wall,” despite a much-publicized episode leak, still drew the second-best ratings ever for the show. More than 10.24 million viewers watched the episode live, and if there are no additional leaks now, we anticipate that the finale is going to break that record through the roof. Game of Thrones is not a show that you can miss, largely because if you do, you run the risk of missing out on something that all of your friends are going to spoil for you in some shape or form. Watching it live is almost essential unless you have incredible self-control when it comes to spoilers getting out online.
