There is no Prison Break season 6 update for now, but it could change

Prison Break season 6

Given that reviving TV shows is still all the rage, it makes some sense that there’d be some Prison Break season 6 talks so soon after season 5. Unfortunately, for the time being there is still not a whole lot to report.

The question was of course asked about the Wentworth Miller – Dominic Purcell series and its future while at the TCA Summer Press Tour, and what we got back from Fox entertainment head David Madden is that the door is always open — even if nobody is coming in at the moment with any ideas. Check out the quote below via TVLine:

“[There is] nothing that we are currently planning on, but we are always interested in new angles on the stories that come out of our library … If the producers have a thought about how to explore another iteration of it, we’d be excited to talk.”

The tricky thing about doing more Prison Break is that structurally, this is a very different show than what we have with The X-Files, Bones, or some of the other Fox properties that have unlimited revival potential. This is a very serialized show, and there are only so many times in which you can make the central conceit altogether believable. The more that you dip into that well in a short period of time, the more over-the-top you risk the entire ordeal becoming. There needs to be some element of awareness on the part of the writers with this, and we think that there is. This is why they’re not rushing anything.

First, let Wentworth and Dominic have the time to go off and do some other things. Purcell, for example, is a regular over on Legends of Tomorrow, and the plan still remains for Miller to make a series of appearances in between that show and The Flash. Miller could always have further projects coming up, as well, and you do have to think about scheduling and whether or not there is a story that will live up to the hype of the franchise.

For all Prison Break standards, we do actually think that season 5 offered up some sort of reasonable ending in the event everyone decides to hang things up. Then again, though, it was pretty darn impossible to imagine getting to see anything after The Final Break, and we somehow still managed to get an entirely new season out of it. Sure, it was only nine episodes, but that is nine more episodes than we ever imagined that we’d be getting beforehand.

Do you think that we should still get a Prison Break season 6?
