The Flash season 4: What is the future for Barry and Iris? (Couples forecast)
The first thing that we know about the state of their relationship is this: They’re in a tough spot when new episodes start airing because of circumstance. Barry is now stuck out somewhere in the Speed Force, and Iris has to find a way to get him back. She loves him, but also will be struggling to keep her hopes up that someday he will return. She’s going to be leading the team at STAR Labs in his absence, helping Kid Flash, Vibe, and the remainder of the team.
So is there still hope for the two characters on the show? You have to absolutely think so, with one of the biggest reasons for that being that the feelings haven’t left. If that was the case, then there would be more of a legitimate reason to worry about the two of them. Unless Barry comes back a completely different person (unlikely), there is every reason in the world to be optimistic about their future.
So what could some of that future be? We do have a number of different suggestions as we do start to move forward into the season.
A wedding – That’s obviously the ideal, and given that there are going to be romantic themes during the four-part crossover, wouldn’t that be the best time for a WestAllen wedding to happen? We very much like to think so! He’s got connections to every other show in the DC – CW universe, and while some other people may have met Kara, he’s actually spent time in National City.
Iris remaining proactive in STAR Labs – If the two get to spend more time together on the job, that certainly could help their relationship when it comes to empathizing and understanding how one another feels. That’s difficult for almost any relationship, and we also figure that it will be here. Finding way to counteract that is important.
Give them more storylines away from work – What is actually like to be engaged to someone with super-speed, beyond just him being able to decorate the place quickly. This is one of the many things that we’re curious to learn from more of a domestic point of view. Obviously we’re sure that there are some cool things that go with Barry having powers, but what are the disadvantages? This is something that The Flash should very much explore the rest of the way this season.
