The Blacklist season 5 spoilers: Katarina’s father could return

Anyone who watches The Blacklist knows at this point that Liz Keen a.k.a. Masha Rostova doesn’t exactly have much in terms of a stable family. Her mother is seemingly gone, her husband Tom only just recently started to feel like an actual husband, and she only recently realized that Reddington is her biological father. (Whether or not the man she’s been working with is actually Reddington, however, is an entirely different story.)

There is still one other interesting family connection out there in the form of Katarina Rostova’s father Dom, a really interesting character who’s been given tidbits of information from Reddington over the years — but not much of anything for most of the time.

For the time being, nothing is 100% confirmed, but there is clearly hope that something interesting could transpire here. Executive producer Jon Bokenkamp basically confirmed as much recently in a piece from Entertainment Weekly:

“I absolutely love Brian Dennehy so yes I hope to see more of him … Remember, Dom and Liz have never met — we’ve never seen those two characters together — so that’s obviously a scene I’d love to write. And when they do meet? Let’s just say I hope Reddington isn’t there so they can speak freely.”

We do think that Dom’s role could be all the more important when you think about whose bones are within that infamous suitcase at the end of season 4. If there are signs that Reddington was involved in Katarina’s death, just imagine the blowback that is there — and there are certainly signs. One of the key things that you need to remember here more so than any other is that Reddington seemed okay with Liz knowing the truth about her father, mostly because it wasn’t the other shoe dropping. With Tom in that possession of said shoe, you can imagine that this is going to get ugly — and ugly fast. We’re all for this. For one, Dennehy is a tremendous actor and he fits perfectly into that sphere of amazing character actors that The Blacklist has managed to accumulate over the years. Also, having Dom around means more great material for Megan Boone and James Spader. Who doesn’t want that?

Everything’s going to be starting soon…

The Blacklist is one of the latest fall shows to get back to work, at least excluding the multi-camera sitcoms and other shows that are premiering at midseason. It will be starting up before long in New York City (think in just a matter of days), and then you may start to get a sense of some of what’s coming in terms of the overall story. What we know right now we’re thoroughly excited about, even if we were a supporter of the Gale character and we’re rather bummed he’s gone. (It made sense to actually have someone looking into what the FBI Task Force was doing — there was some shady stuff happening and still is!)
