The Flash season 4 spoilers: The Mechanic, Elongated Man reportedly coming
These descriptions that you see below come via That Hashtag Show. Meanwhile, the analysis that we’ve attached to it is completely our own.
The Mechanic – “Diverse. An extremely intelligent engineer who will design devices for Clifford Devoe. Basically, Devoe’s right hand. She’ll support Devoe no matter the consequences.”
Elongated Man, otherwise known as Ralph Dibny – “Male, Mid to late 30s, Open Ethnicity. Think Ryan Reynolds or Chris Pratt, Ralph has the ability to stretch his body to super-human lengths and sizes…however, while resculpting his old body is easy to do, Dibny finds losing the old misguided sense of truth and slobbery, even after joining the team at S.T.A.R. Labs, is a far more difficult task to accomplish.”
Elongated Man is a well-known hero from the DC Comics universe, and there is seemingly a chance that you could see the character return in season 5 to go along with what we see of him this time. As for how all of these characters fit in, and if there is room for all of them, that’s what we personally have got to figure out. Remember that we’re anticipating more of Tom Felton as Julian Albert in the upcoming season, either another incarnation of Tom Cavanagh as Wells or the return of Earth-2 Harry, and also some more villains in a guest-starring capacity. We know that Wentworth Miller is expecting to do some more work as Captain Cold, while it was recently confirmed that the season 1 villain Peek-a-Boo will be making a reprise of her own during the story coming up.
Just in case you didn’t see it previously, here is the official breakdown for DeVoe, who apparently has not been cast yet despite the search going on for many weeks now:
Male, 40s-50, Open Ethnicity. After being struck with dark matter from the particle accelerator explosion, Clifford Devoe became a meta-human with a mega-mind. A Stephen Hawking-esque genius who’s devised an intricate plan to fix all that he deems wrong with humanity. “The Thinker” will embark upon a season long battle with The Flash that pins the “fastest man alive” against the “fastest mind alive.”
Whoever is cast in this role will be a fractional series regular, meaning that they will be committed for the year but will only be contracted for a portion of the season. A good comparison is Willa Holland on Arrow last season, where she was only in a handful of episodes.
