Fear the Walking Dead season 3 episode 7 spoilers: What Nick wants

Fear the Walking Dead season 3 episode 7

When Fear the Walking Dead season 3 episode 7 airs this weekend, Nick’s going to be at the center of the story. Specifically, he’s going to be interested in trying to join the militia.

In the sneak peek below, you get a further sense of how Nick is feeling as he tells Troy that he wants an “occupation” — basically, he wants to find a way to feel like he’s a part of this world and doesn’t want to be excluded from it. This is where Troy comes into play, given that he is the one at the moment training some of the recruits for whatever is to come — which, in his mind, is a gruesome battle against Walker, the current Big Bad and the person responsible for shooting down the helicopter.

One of the things that is so interesting about the story being set up for this midseason finale (which runs for two hours) is that when you stop and think about it for a moment, you may realize that Walker is actually more reactive than he is proactive in some ways. He is more of a result of circumstance, of the cards that have been dealt to him.

First and foremost, this is a man who is mostly acting out of a desire to take back the land that he feels is rightfully is. His motives are fairly vicious and terrible, but this is a pretty darn vicious world. The big motivating factor in the actions of some now may be what happened to the people who tried to leave Broke Jaw Ranch, but it was Troy who was behind what happened to them as opposed to anything Walker did. If he continues to keep that under wraps, this could set the stage for some further drama coming down the road — whether it is this episode or somewhere later on.

Who are we the most worried about?

Our hope is that by the end of the midseason finale, the majority of the characters we’ve been introduced to are still alive. We would like to see Strand and Salazar with much of the rest of the gang, and we don’t necessarily want to see either Troy or Jake gone. Troy’s a wild card, but there’s something about his brand of crazy that is compelling. These two guys are among the more interesting characters introduced since the first season of the show.

We’re certainly not worried about the core group of Madison, Nick, and Alicia — though maybe we should be, and that’s one of the ways the show will surprise us.
