Outlander season 4 begins its search for trainees in Scotland
While this sort of gig may not be for everyone, The Scottish Sun has identified a way for some aspiring TV crew members to learn a little bit more about the business and how shows are made. You would be involved in helping out with some stages of preproduction, and making sure that elements of the set are ready to go for when Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan are on set.
You can see the full listing over here, which says that production is “looking for keen and committed individuals to fulfill the following traineeships beginning July & August 2017. Production Design, Draughtsperson, Costume, and Painter/Set Decoration Painter.”
For those wondering, a draughtsperson is someone who helps via software in order to turn drawings of architects into reality. They help to draft out better, more usable plans.
If you’re wanting to get your foot in the door in this industry, maybe this is a great way to do so. It won’t be the flashiest of jobs, but a good recommendation could go a long way. If you’re not interested, still consider this worthwhile news given that it tells you where the show is already in season 4 preproduction. Filming may have just ended in South Africa, but there isn’t a whole lot of sleep when it comes to this show. Scripts are already being planned out in Los Angeles, Comic-Con is later in July, and the publicity tour for the third season will likely devour much of the month of September.
For those wondering, there are apparently further trainee opportunities coming later in the year, presumably when filming starts for good in Scotland. There is already work being done securing the right locations; Outlander is a well-oiled machine, and you have to admire them for thinking ahead and ensuring that most of the complicated stuff for the show is being squared away now so that it is something that they don’t quite have to worry about down the road.
What’s the biggest preproduction challenge this year?
A big part of that (with a warning ahead for book spoilers) is going to be coming up with ways to recreate America while still in Scotland. There have not been any public reports on filming moving stateside for season 4; the good news is that there are parts of the region that do look similar enough to America, just as there are parts of South Africa that can easily double for the Caribbean. These workers, both now and down the road, can help to cultivate an experience that is significantly more authentic.
Further Outlander news worth checking out
The big news that came out yesterday was the official start time and place for the Comic-Con panel. You can check that out over here. Hopefully, there will be some more confirmed info on the cast very soon.

I look forward to more Outlander series. Thanks so much for the constant updates about Outlander. It is wonderful to be constantly informed. I love the fact that Outlander is filmed in Scotland, and i hope that one day i will go for a holiday there and visit the sets of Outlander. It means so much to me to read how Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe love filming Outlander. Also how much their fans mean to them. I am a big fan of Sam Heughan and he is my best actor. Sam is a brilliant, brilliant actor. Sam is also a wonderful person, and does such amazing things for people. Caitriona Balfe is a fantastic actress and so natural and so brilliant . It means alot to me that, it makes her happy by giving her fans pleasure when she acts. Caitriona is a kind and caring person.

As always thank you for updating our Outlander addiction.
I look forward to as many TV series of Outlander as they will continue to write and act, however I’m sadden that it’s all in Scotland, yes I understand why but this has been the only show that has put themselves out to the public to be involved. With that I’m glad our Scottish friends get to be able to have a great opportunity and perhaps my future will include a trip to Scotland, that would satisfy me as well.
