The Originals season 4 finale: Hope’s crisis; farewell, Michael Narducci

Michael Narducci

Going in The Originals season 4 finale, there are many things to note. The departure of Michael Narducci is near the top of the list.

“The Feast of All Sinners” is the final episode for Narducci as a showrunner, and he’s done a tremendous job of building this world over the years and fleshing out these characters. He’s worked especially well in this 13-episode format for season 4, which allowed him and the writers to tell a story that was far more streamlined. He had a narrative that could build without the concern of lengthy hiatuses or so many episodes that it was impossible to sustain any individual story.

As for why Narducci is departing at this time, much of that has to do with his new overall deal over at ABC Studios, where he will develop new projects there. It absolutely made sense for him to take that deal, given that this is a big step forward in his career, and at the time the future of The Originals was uncertain and maybe even doubtful given that The Vampire Diaries was ending and there was no telling if anyone was going to still watch the spin-off show.

We’ll miss Michael, so here’s a toast to a worthy spin-off for season 4.

This is your last chance to see Narducci describe the events of an upcoming episode. Here, he’ll take you through the current possession of Hope by The Hollow, and the desperate times / desperate measures that Klaus and company are going to need to take in order to ensure that she is safe and able to carry on in the future.

As for how much the Mikaelsons are going to have to give up in order to ensure that Hope is safe, that is the big kicker. Per Narducci, Vincent will be key in arranging the plan, but it’s one that could require some measure of great sacrifice in order to pull off. Some of these characters may be in a situation where they are never able to speak with each other again. Let’s just see what’s going to be coming both in the finale and then also season 5.
