Big Brother 19 spoilers: About the ‘Summer of Temptation’ twist

Summer of Temptation

Recently, Big Brother 19 host Julie Chen hyped up that this season would be the “Summer of Temptation” twist, and we’re getting a sense of what that’s going to mean.

Per a CBS release this morning, the house is going to reflect greed in all sorts of ways, which makes some sense since everyone’s there to win money! Whether it be dollar bills as decorations or a Head of Household room that is covered in gold (This may feel a little too much like Trump Tower for our taste), this season is going to test the houseguests greed meters.

Anyhow, here’s a little more information about how the twist will play out:

“In the premiere episode, Houseguests will face a BIG BROTHER first as they encounter tempting offers for money, power and safety that could change the course of the game on the very first night. In addition to the Twists being revealed during the two-hour premiere, a new twist, the “Den of Temptation,” will be unveiled in the first Sunday episode, July 2 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT). America will vote on which Houseguest they would like to send into the “Den of Temptation” to be enticed by a potentially game-changing offer. But it’s always a game of risk vs. reward, as every temptation will unleash a consequence on the house.”

What we do like about this twist is that it means so many people spreading theories / rumors online beforehand were wrong. We like that production is trying something new rather than relying on the Battle of the Block or the BB Roadkill again. The show’s biggest challenge still remains making the Sunday shows interesting given that Haves and Have-Nots are interesting psychologically but not that compelling as entertainment for an hour-long show. Those competitions are a waste of time to a viewer.

How effective this twist is depends heavily on how much power it could give the houseguests. Having it be money-focused could make it a little like The Mole, and we’re all about that since it’s the players making decisions rather than America or the producers. If this somehow leads to players getting powers like the coup d’état or things that invalidate the Head of Household, we’re very much interested in seeing it go the way of the dodo.

One way or another, odds are that the Summer of Temptation will probably fade away at around week 5 or 6 into the season. Most twists do.

What do you think about the idea of the twist in theory, and how do you think that it’s going to play out? Share in the comments!
