This Is Us season 2: NBC shows great confidence in story, tone
In speaking about this new batch of episodes while at the ATX Television Festival, Jennifer Salke of NBC Entertainment offered up the slightest hint (per Deadline) of how the show is keeping some familiarity while also trying to implement something new in the process:
“Season two I know will be bigger than season one. There’s a lot of things happening, the show isn’t going to settle down and get quieter. It’ll maintain all its authenticity and soulfulness, but there’s a lot happening and I’ve got to tell you, it’s incredible.”
There is always a risk that comes with hype, but if any show should be prepared for it, it’s this one. Remember back to before it came out? This Is Us is one of those few shows that delivered a near-relentless stream of buzz almost from the get-go, delivering an amazing number of streams on Facebook leading up to the first episode coming on the air. There was never much of any doubt that this was going to be a hit, and somehow it managed to live up to that hype and continue to be strong for the entirety of the first season.
The only thing that could slow This Is Us down now is the show itself. It needs to keep the momentum, and one of the best ways to do that is stay true to the characters that everyone loves already, and try to stay focused on what’s relatable.
