The Originals season 4 finale: Will the door be open for Caroline?

Is it possible that a Candice Accola appearance is coming on The Originals season 4 finale — or in the fifth season premiering next year? Based on what executive producer Julie Plec has said, it’s certainly possible.

While appearing at the ATX Television Festival this weekend, Plec noted to Entertainment Weekly Radio that Hope Mikaelson may be heading over to the school that Alaric and Caroline have established over in Mystic Falls — or at least she sort-of-revealed that before stopping herself midway through and then saying “keep watching.” Obviously, she wouldn’t say anything if there were no hopes to revisit this storyline. Alaric already appeared on The Originals season 4, and we know from The Vampire Diaries series finale that Klaus is a patron to the cause. It makes some organic sense for Hope to be sent to the school, where she can be spared some of the insanity in New Orleans and be trained by someone in Caroline who’s done rather well with powers.

If Candice King does surface on The Originals, that does open the door for a possible Klaus – Caroline romance down the road. With Stefan now gone from this world and her relationship with Alaric buried in the past, Caroline now could be in a position where she’d consider something with Joseph Morgan’s character. There is an attraction there from both parties, and this remains one of the most popular ‘ships out there in the entire Vampire Diaries extended universe. Anything is possible now that season 5 is a sure thing.

For now, just bookmark this idea — it may not be surfacing right away, but it’s something to keep watch on both at the end of this season and moving forward. There are three episodes left of The Originals season 4 including tonight — at present, the obvious point of emphasis is stopping the super-mysterious / super-evil-to-the-Mikaelsons entity known as The Hollow.
