Arrow season 6: Felicity – Helix story could continue

Felicity - Helix

Just in case you had an eagerness for more of the Felicity – Helix storyline on Arrowthere is more (potentially) coming in season 6.

Speaking per TVLine, executive producer Wendy Mericle made it clear that this was a story that was left open intentionally, mostly since it does give them further storytelling possibilities when they do get to mapping out the season:

“It’d be a great, sort of built-in story for Felicity to revisit these people, who are not very happy with her, let’s be honest. We left that open-ended on purpose, for sure.”

What makes this interesting to us is that in between this and Vigilante still being out there, you do have two very big loose ends that need to be tied up. Helix is not your typical Big Bad just because they’re such a collective, and their weapons are so much more psychological than physical. Think about an organization that could strip the wealth out of almost every in Star City and distribute it somewhere else, or could shut down the energy grid for a lengthy period of time. Their capabilities are through the roof.

The challenge with Helix comes in finding a way to integrate other characters into the story. Oliver versus a bunch of computer hackers isn’t much of a fair fight no matter how you slice it — he can destroy them physically, but from a distance they are lethal to him in turn (computer keystrokes are much more of a distant weapon than arrow). Helix makes sense for a Felicity story arc or maybe a Curtis one, but you can’t quite make them a Big Bad since it cancels out the ability to have those epic fight scenes like what we’ve seen for much of the past several years.

As of right now, Black Siren (Katie Cassidy) is the leading candidate to become the new Big Bad for season 6, if for no other reason than that there are few other options and there are no other characters publicly being cast right now. Maybe you throw Vigilante up there just because he’s so violent, and it’s not entirely clear who is underneath the mask just yet. (Let’s stick with the prevailing theory that it’s Paul, mostly because otherwise he’s a complete stranger that nobody really cares about.)
