Grey’s Anatomy firefighter spin-off: Premiere date speculation!

Grey's Anatomy firefighter spin-off

When the Grey’s Anatomy firefighter spin-off premiere? It’s a good question, given one month ago this was not even on the radar. Grey’s Anatomy itself had a good thing going for itself, and there was no real reason to think that there would be something else coming either in season 14 or otherwise.

Then, here come the firefighters! Maybe this is because of the success of Chicago Fire, or maybe Shonda Rhimes or someone else in Shondaland has a strong enough take that suggests that the show will be able to succeed in the long-term. Without knowing the actors, the characters, or the structure of the show, all of this is incredibly hart to put out on paper.

The one thing that is worth questioning, however, is rather clear: Possible premiere dates! When it was first announced, it was unclear if this project was for the 2017-18 season, or if it was being introduced as something to be a bigger part of the network’s plans down the road. Now, it’s starting to become a little bit closer to crystal clear as to what is going on, and this seems more like a show that is going to be coming up during the season. Not only does ABC seem to have plans to launch it, but Canadian broadcast CTV seems ready to put it on their own 2017-18 schedule as well.

Given that the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off is not on the fall schedule, it does feel almost picture-perfect that the firefighter spin-off could launch itself in the second half of the season come at around March. Think in terms of after How to Get Away with Murder, when the network could shift Scandal back to 10:00 (hey, it’s the final season and ratings don’t matter as much) and this show could capitalize from the lead-in of the flagship show for however long it lasts. Given that there will probably only be so many weeks left in the season at that point, it’s hard to see it getting anything more than a 13-episode season. Granted, this may be all that is needed to test whether or not the show is worthwhile. Also, remember that the first season of Grey’s Anatomy itself only had nine episodes in order to make itself into a hit.
