Is Last Week Tonight with John Oliver new tonight? Missing news
On this past edition of the HBO late-night institution, Oliver himself revealed that both tonight and next week would be repeats, which gives him and the writing staff a chance to recharge the batteries while everyone else remains in various states of panic over all that is happening within the news cycle at the moment.
Many of the headlines that Oliver could have been covering at the moment tie very much to President Trump’s overseas visits, whether it be his behavior around NATO, which included shoving one head of state out of the way and demanding that other countries contribute more, or some of his behavior surrounding Melania Trump and the current state of her relationship to the President.
Specifically, let’s offer up some topics for when Oliver comes back, knowing full well that there may be so many things that change over the next couple of weeks that he has some entirely different subjects when the dust settles.
NATO – How important and influential are they? Despite being prominent when it comes to international politics, Americans likely do not know the finer intricacies about the group’s power and some of what these nations come together in order to do.
More on Jared Kushner – While he’s been explored somewhat as a subject matter already, the latest speculation about him potentially working to set up a back channel with Russia could make for another interesting segment in its own right.
Travel – What is Trump Administration leaving insofar as an impact on the tourism industry? Is this something that Oliver could explore, or is there more data necessary in order to do just that?
TSA – In this case, maybe John can just take on a long-form version of the subject he teased briefly at the end of this past episode, something that was cut because of all of the other assorted headlines that were breaking out there.
Territories – We’re not sure if there would be much of a need for an update here, but the segment Oliver did on the voting / citizenship rights for U.S. Territories may be one of his strongest pieces to date.

Excited delirium: A cause of death initiated by high body temperature and erratic behavior, followed by LEO hog-tying, face-slamming and body-piling.
Trending on death certificates. See Reno Gazette Journal’s April 2017 investigative series on Washoe County Jail inmate deaths.
Right up John’s alley.
