The Voice finale: About Chris Blue original song ‘Money On You’

Money on You

Tonight, The Voice is allowing all of its final four artists a chance to do original songs — for Chris Blue, he’s going to have a chance to tackle a song in “Money on You” that could be both very fun and very memorable.

There is also a different challenge for this song than one many other finalists take — a lot of its success is going to come down to his performance on the show selling it. This upbeat, catchy pop song requires a TON of confidence to pull off. He needs to get people on board with the swagger and style of it. If he can create a memorable, electric performance on the show, they’ll be so much more inclined to go buy it. He’s not going to have the benefit of a Chris Stapleton writing credit like Jesse Larson does or a chance to be vulnerable like Lauren Duski will. He needs to just SELL the heck out of this song as a potential hit for him.

Luckily, Chris does have the potential to be able to do that, given that pound for pound he’s been the best performer this season. This doesn’t unfortunately mean that he is the favorite to win, but nobody’s been as consistent or as capable to tackle anything thrown at them. Regardless of what happens over the final two days of the season, he’s got a chance to go on and be a successful recording artist after the fact. He has the work ethic, but he also needs the right people around him to be able to help promote him to be a star. This is something that so many alumni have struggled with after the show, mostly because the record labels after the fact have a history of not doing enough to support the artists.

Beyond “Money on You,” Chris’ other songs tonight include a duet with his coach Alicia Keys set to the Prince hit “Diamonds and Pears” — Jesse is also performing a Prince song tonight. He’s also got a fantastic solo song in Janet Jackson’s “Rhythm Nation” that will show everything that he brings to the table this season, including some stuff that helps him to further stand apart amidst the field.
