Better Call Saul season 3 episode 7 spoilers: Jimmy (or Saul) on the run

Better Call Saul season 3

On this past episode of Better Call Saul, the name Saul Goodman was spoken for the first time — at least in the current timeline and for a specific purpose: A mask. Jimmy needs to find a way to continue to do work, without finding himself in a position where his legal reputation could take a hit. This is why he came up with the whole “marketing” business.

There is a dash of irony to this — Jimmy may be good at many things, but impressions is not one of them. He cannot pretend to be anyone other than himself, and this could spell some pretty substantial trouble if some of his legal clients hear his voice on television and start to wonder why he’s suddenly switching professions and fooling around with something as significant as their afterlives.

The sneak peek HERE doesn’t exactly offer up some further insight in terms of Jimmy’s new career; instead, what we saw was a quick transition for Jimmy from one outfit into another. This is a further indication of what one of Jimmy’s greatest assets is: Perception. He’s incredible at coming up with a new skin for himself, and understanding that looking and acting a certain way is essential for getting clients on your side. This is why he will find some more success as Jimmy, and eventually more success as Saul. Will it be by the end of the season? It’s possible, but one of the big problems with this is his own suspension. Thanks to what happened with the Bar, it does seem like Jimmy’s legal career has been kicked down the curb a little bit and the remainder of the season is going to revolve in part around Jimmy trying to figure out how to make things work for him in the interim.

If the show is very much interested in trying to find a way to navigate this struggle, it’s certainly possible that season 4, or even later this season, could feature a time jump. The Saul Goodman persona is obviously going to be successful, so much so that Jimmy decides to stick with that over being the person that he actually is — and the person that Kim and other people at one point cared about.
