Will a cliffhanger set up Arrow season 6? Signs point to yes
Is there a big Arrow season 6 cliffhanger coming? We know that this is something that the show doesn’t need to do. Yet, it’s something that could drum up that much more publicity for the show, and it could give us some idea as to where the story is going.
After all, we are at a point in the story where there are all sorts of questions regarding the future of the show. The flashbacks are ending, Prometheus’ story will likely be wrapped up, and after being rocked to his core about whether or not he is a hero or a murderer, odds are that the show will be very different when it comes back this fall.
While we cannot give you any indications about what the upcoming season will be like in terms of concrete content, here is what executive producer Wendy Mericle had to say about the story thematically in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly:
“We’re going to go out on a big cliffhanger, so that part is definitely going to be helping us galvanize the premiere. Because we’re closing such a big chapter, I think there are going to be some really new and exciting questions. What we’re really trying to do is set up a new dynamic in season 6. That will speak in so many different ways — on the ground level, we’re going to be rethinking how we tell stories because the flashbacks aren’t going to be what they were. We don’t have to service that backstory in the same way that we had to, so the way the show is written and broken is malleable at this point. By the same token, where all the characters are is an opportunity to redefine and for everybody to look back, reflect, and then start to look forward about where they want to go and where do they have the most impact in our lives? How are they going to be the best heroes they can be?”
New episodes of the show will start this fall, and as we get a little closer to that air date, we imagine that there will be some more questions. Specifically, who will survive to make it there? Given that Juliana Harkavy and Rick Gonzalez were recently promoted to series regular, all signs do point to the two of them getting to be the part of the show moving further into the future.
