Absentia spoilers: Meet Stana Katic’s Emily Byrne (photo)

Emily Byrne

We weren’t planning to bring you any new Absentia spoilers until Tuesday, but this first look at Stana Katic’s character of Emily Byrne changed that.

In a post on Twitter earlier today (see the full tweet below), the show’s official account shared a first look at Katic’s character, as she will appear during the Sony AXN series. While they’ve shared many teasers over the past several weeks, this marks the first official promotional photo for Absentia since the show was announced.

It’s also worth noting that we have official confirmation on the character’s name here in Emily Byrne. We’ve hesitated sharing her name much during previous articles, given that names often change from the time of the announcement to the end of production. For a while, rumor had it that Katic’s character would go by Emily Vaughn on the series. That’s something that will make a little bit more sense when you actually see the series and some of the other characters.

Now, let’s talk the setting – In breaking down this image further, the big thing to note here is that Emily Byrne is standing in what seems to be some sort of office. Is this the FBI, or some other sort of law-enforcement command center? Possibly. The televisions are a little too blurry to make out what is on them, but the man in the suit sitting behind her certainly looks like he could be an agent. Meanwhile, the other room behind Emily looks as though it could be a command center with the wide array of screens inside it. There could be a bulletin board back there with some other information worth noting.

As for the timeframe of the photo, odds are this comes after Emily Byrne is found after being missing for many years in a cabin. While she is an FBI agent herself, it doesn’t seem as though she is there in an official capacity. She’s not sporting a badge, and is not dressed in typical FBI attire. It looks more like she’s dressed for the rough elements of Boston, including the cold and the rain.

Absentia will more than likely premiere later this year, but no official home for the series has been named in either the United States or Canada. Once more news is official, we’ll have it for you.

Be sure to share your thoughts on this photo in the comments!
