Rick and Morty season 3 premiere randomly airs on Adult Swim

Rick and Morty season 3

Typically, April Fools’ Day gags are the sort that come at your own expense. Therefore, this feels like the right time to announce something that actually serves as a benefit to the majority of the people out there — Adult Swim is officially launching Rick and Morty season 3.

As a matter of fact, it’s airing right now as we’re writing this … on a loop. The airing was not previously announced, so it put most of social media into a frenzy when it come about. It will be airing over and over again until midnight, so if you’re upset about not knowing about it coming on the air, you’ve got plenty of time to still be able to go home and check it out. While this move is one that would be ridiculous or probably not work for the majority of the shows that are out there, it’s pretty brilliant, and a good fit, for one like Rick and Morty that makes the majority of its money off of being completely random and absurd. It also gives the show infinitely more publicity than it would if it had premiered it almost any other time.

If you haven’t watched the show before, be sure to check it out if you’ve got an affinity for offbeat, obscene-at-times humor that doesn’t try to be like anything else out there. Also, one of the genius minds behind it is Dan Harmon, a genius mind from Community. We don’t know how much more we can say in order to further recommend it.

So maybe one episode won’t get significantly higher ratings than any other tonight, but we don’t think that the experiment was all about that. This was really more about catching lightning in a bottle, and this was a great time to do that given the fact that this was a rather slow night, both in terms of programming and also in terms of other stories out there that qualify as breaking news.

What do you think both of the Rick and Morty season 3 premiere being available, and also the way in which Adult Swim chose to go about it? Be sure to share some of your thoughts in the comments. (Photo: Adult Swim.)
