The Flash / Supergirl crossover ratings even; Legends of Tomorrow rises

The Flash / Supergirl crossover

While there may have been a ton of buzz over the Flash / Supergirl crossover that aired on The CW Tuesday night, it doesn’t appear as though any of that said buzz translated into the event making much of a dent when it comes to the primetime ratings on Tuesday night.

In the end, the episode entitled “Duet” drew a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which equals more or less the ratings for The Flash from the week before. Maybe you need some other shows within the CW – DC Comics universe in there to boost the ratings further, or maybe much of the issue here was the subject matter. This wasn’t a bad rating by any means, but we did expect at least a 1.0 given all of the hype and promotion. In the end, musicals just aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, and that may be true for superhero fans in general. We’re fine buying into a concept about someone with superspeed battling some sort of god from the future controlled by a magic rock, but superheroes doing song-and-dance numbers in a dream sequence? That might be a tad too much. That being said it made sense for the shows to try this out since they do have alumni from Glee that can sing and dance.

Anyhow, The Flash will return to business as usual next week with “Abra Kadabra”, and we’ll have some further news on that over the coming days.

As for the timeslot companion for the night on The CW, the latest Legends of Tomorrow episode recovered from some of its lowest ratings up to a 0.6. Every show mentioned so far in this article has been renewed for another season already, so there’s not really anything to worry about when it comes to that. The larger concern here is more making sure they stay viable in the years to come.

What else is there?

Over on Fox, we saw a lot of the same ratings fall into place. New Girl and The Mick drew only a 0.8 despite repeats airing on many other networks, and Bones ended up also getting a 0.8 for its last episode before the series finale airing next week.

The Voice ended up winning the night over on NBC with a 2.2, while Trial & Error recovered slightly from its previous performance, posting a 1.2 and 1.1 rating for its two episodes following The VoiceChicago Fire returned to a 1.5, down from its past episode — though to be fair, that episode was a part of a huge crossover event.
