Big Brother Canada 5: Demetres Giannitsos pre-game interview (exclusive)
Take a look at everything that the 24-year old oil field instrument technician from Edson, Alberta (west of Edmonton) had to say to us below.
CarterMatt – What made you want to try out for Big Brother Canada?
Demetres Giannitsos – Why not? I like the show. Me and my friends like to sit down and critique the players on what they do wrong and do right. I want to see what I do wrong and do right — hopefully I do some things right!
If you could compare yourself to someone from Big Brother Canada or Big Brother US, who would it be?
I’d like to compare myself to Godfrey from season 3. He’s pretty witty, and we’ve got the same sense of humor. I get him.
What’s something about you that would surprise people?
A lot of people are surprised when I tell them that I used to be a really good golfer and had scholarships in the States. I don’t look like a golfer or act like one, so when I tell people that, they’re like ‘huh.’
Do you have a specific strategy entering the house?
I’m still working on it, but I think that I’m going to have to attach myself to some other strong players. I know that if we start butting heads early in the game, it’s going to lead to strong players getting sent home!
How are you going to implement that strategy?
I’m going to have to bro down with some of the guys! Maybe we’ll have some things in common — hockey, other sports.
What do you think your biggest weakness could be?
I’m going to act with my emotions a lot more than I probably should. It’s easy to watch a show and be like ‘oh, that’s easy.’ I could see people pulling out all of my emotions.
Is there anything that you’re nervous about entering the house?
Just like the first day when you don’t know anyone yet, and you’re trying to put your foot in an alliance and you’re scared of being the first guy sent out. Whatever. Even if I get kicked out first, it’ll still be a fun experience.
Other than winning the money, what’s the one thing you’re hoping to get out of this experience? Are you hoping for fame, romance, or just a good experience?
Pretty much all of what you said. I mean, everyone here is here for the 15 minutes, and if they tell you differently, they’re lying. Just have a good time. I mean, I really didn’t want to work the next two months anyway, so it’s a little bit of a mini-vacation.
Our snap judgment
Demetres could actually do a little better than his bio lets on if he jumps ship from this strategy quickly … but we’re not sure he will. He seems like the sort of guy who will get in an early showmance, put a huge target on his back, and get evicted before the jury while his showmance partner makes it all the way to the final three. (Good news for her? Maybe.) The one thing going in his favor is that he’s got some understanding of what the game is and how it’s more than just hanging out with the bros and crushing on someone.
