Oscars 2017 stunt allows Jimmy Kimmel, tourists, Denzen Washington to mingle

Oscars -

The Oscars tend to have a viral moment or two every year, and for the 2017 broadcast, what we saw was probably one for the ages. It was silly, it was random, but it was also incredibly entertaining.

Here is the basic premise of how this all came about. Someone, whether it be host Jimmy Kimmel or one of the producers, thought it would be a great idea to bring in Hollywood tourists to the Oscars in order to give them a quick show-and-tell of everything going on. As a result of that, what we had was something supremely entertaining. Kimmel masterfully led the tourists through a meet-and-greet, and spent the majority of the time with one man from Chicago who was especially eager to be there.

Overall, the best part of this was easily seeing this man and his fiance get to meet Denzel Washington, who took it upon himself to take a photo with the two before pronouncing them man and wife. If Denzel marries you, is it official? We’re starting to think so just because we think that Denzel can more or less do whatever he wants.

Was this bit a little predictable once it got started? Sure, but compare this to many of the other random stunts we’ve seen from other Oscar hosts over the years. The thing that Kimmel is doing so well during the broadcast is that he’s staying in his element and not trying to be someone he’s not. This is something that we’ll comment on further after the show, when we post our full review of his performance as a host on the night. For now, we’d be fine with seeing him again on the show at some point. (Bonus points if you find a way to get him hosting again while Matt Damon is in the audience.)
