Sean Spicer comments on Melissa McCarthy – ‘Saturday Night Live’ sketch

SNL -We do already know what Donald Trump feels about Alec Baldwin’s portrayal of him on “Saturday Night Live,” but what about Melissa McCarthy as Sean Spicer? This was the sketch that really stole the show over the weekend, as we saw the actress spoof the Press Secretary as an aggressive, angry dude ready to throw things at reporters as a means to enforce his point of view and only his point of view. (For the record, our favorite moment came when she opted to charge at one reporter with the podium.)

For the most part, we’d say that Spicer has a slightly better sense of humor about the sketch than Trump. Speaking to “Extra” while at the Super Bowl, he conceded that the show was “funny,” though also noting that McCarthy could “dial it back.” Specifically, she noted that she “needs to slow down on the gum chewing; way too many pieces in there.” We don’t necessarily think that Spicer’s being altogether serious when making that comment, either.

What’s interesting about this is that Spicer is handling being openly mocked way better than Trump is; though he also came to the defense of his boss in the interview:

“Alec has gone from funny to mean, and that’s unfortunate. ‘SNL’ used to be really funny. There’s a streak of meanness now that they’ve crossed over to mean.”

We don’t really think that the tone of Baldwin’s Trump has changed all that much from the beginning of the season. There is a certain degree of truth to the fact that the impression does seem far more mean-spirited than any other Presidential impression in the past, but this is at the same time a very different sort of Presidency than any that we’ve ever seen before. It’s far more political, and to go along with that, it’s also far more controversial.

What do you think of Spicer’s response to McCarthy? Is he handling it far better than Trump, and do you want to see Melissa host later this season just for the sake of this alone? Be sure to share below, and head over here to see our full review of this past episode. (Photo: NBC.)
