Super Bowl LI Halftime Show: Lady Gaga performs ‘Bad Romance,’ ‘Million Reasons,’ more — grade it! (video)
To say that the Super Bowl Halftime Show featuring Lady Gaga was much-anticipated would be making a gross understatement. This is one of the biggest pop stars of our time taking the stage and delivering a set that will be entertaining, interesting, and probably controversial at the same time. It’s a chance to also see just how controversial she wants to make this performance. We certainly know that she is someone unafraid to stir the pot and get people talking.
Gaga actually began the Halftime Show with a rendition of “God Bless America,” a song that is not even hers. Didn’t see that coming! She also threw a little bit of “This Land is Your Land” in there for good effect.
After this, things started to get a little bit more conventional, as Gaga came out to perform one of her biggest hits in “Poker Face.” She literally flew around the arena, while also dancing at the same time. Probably the most impressive part of this is that you could still hear her singing voice. (We have a feeling that after all these air spins, we’d be sick.) She made a pretty seamless transition from this into “Born This Way,” a pretty big anthem given the period of time that we’re in right now. There probably was not a better song for Gaga to sing right now.
Now, things get a little bit crazier. The moment that Gaga started to sing “Telephone,” we started to think that Beyonce was in attendance. After all, she’s one of the reasons that this song was a hit. Alas, that didn’t happen and Gaga transitioned from this song over to “Just Dance,” her first hit on American radio. This was nostalgia!
We were wondering when things were going to start to slow down, and they did when Gaga performed “Million Reasons,” the first one of her new songs that she did during her set. From here, she changed things up and went with “Bad Romance.” This was also her first major outfit change of the whole set! It also happened to be the end.
Overall – Gaga gave this her all, and she did it while singing the majority of the time. She showed her piano-playing, her dancing, and her creativity. We don’t know how you could have asked for more.
