‘The Flash’ season 3, episode 11 preview: Cisco challenges Gypsy
Tonight’s new episode of “The Flash” is right about here, and it looks already like there is one word that can be used to describe it: Hilarious. Anytime that you throw Cisco Ramon at the center of a storyline, at least provided that it’s not about his late brother Dante, you’re going to see a little bit of comedy come into play.
During “Dead or Alive,” that’s going to come via his complicated relationship with Gypsy. He wants to date her, but at the same time there’s a very good chance that she is going to kill him. The sneak peek below starts to make some of that clear, as you can see Cisco stupidly try to impress her by declaring that he wants a trial by combat, even if there is fundamentally very little chance that he has of actually being able to defeat her in such a battle. After all, just remember the extent of her powers, which are far more advanced than Cisco’s own.
The real charm of this sneak peek comes via the comedy of it all, in particular when it comes to seeing Cisco boldly stick his neck out on the line, only to realize multiple times as to how big a mistake he’s made. He realized that he doesn’t have much of a tangible shot of taking her out, but he can’t bring himself to admitting that in front of her. Luckily, he does have one reprieve: Getting to wait 24 hours before the two are set to engage in the “trial.” That gives enough time for both Barry and also H.R. to train and prepare him for what he should do in the moment, and what he should avoid.
So why wouldn’t Barry just step in even if doing so is against the rules of the trial? The biggest reason that we can think of is that nobody wants there to be an epic war brewing between Earth-1 and Earth-19. All stopping Gypsy would do via these means is infuriate everyone on her world; as a matter of fact, we may end up seeing this happen anyway given that we’re not sure anyone on Earth-19 will be happy if she doesn’t show back up.
