‘Supergirl’ season 2 spoilers: Why is Lena Luthor arrested?

Lena -

Lena Luthor over the first part of “Supergirl” season 2 proved to be someone Kara Danvers could trust, but it was not an easy journey to get to that point. Remember for a moment her last name, not to mention her position of corporate power. She was someone who easily could’ve proven to be a villain — instead, she was integral in helping to ensure that her mother Lillian was taken away to prison.

It’s too bad that Lillian’s time behind bars may be shorter-lived than anyone imagined. On the upcoming February 13 episode entitled “Luthors,” you will have a chance to see what happens when Metallo manages to break out of prison, and in the process also sets Lillian free. What happens from here is a race for Supergirl to ensure that no further damages comes to the city, though we’re pretty sure that damage is the one thing that we can confidently expect to see over the course of the episode.

Here is the problem when it comes to Lena: She is arrested after being accused of being the person responsible for making this happen. Given that Kara thinks that she’s innocent of the charges, she will do what she can to help her. In flashbacks, meanwhile, you’ll learn how Lena came to be a Luthor in the first place. (As you would assume, the show is entitled “Luthors” for a reason.)

Do we think that Lena could be involved in some nefarious activities at some point in the show? Probably, mostly because of the last name and the fact that this show doesn’t have a whole lot of good people who’ve turned to the dark side yet — it’s always a welcome addition to any series. Yet, at the same time it makes no sense for Lena to want to free her mother here, given that it was only a matter of episodes ago that she got her locked up in the first place. Why go through all of the trouble?

Given that you still have a ways to go until this episode airs, we’ll pass along some further details as we hear them. For now, be sure to head over here to watch a preview now for Monday night’s new episode of the show. (Photo: The CW.)
