‘Criminal Minds’ season 12, episode 9 video: Rossi presses on in ‘Profiling 202’

Criminal Minds -After a lengthy delay, “Criminal Minds” season 12 returns to CBS tonight with an episode entitled “Profiling 202,” and it feels fair to say that this episode is going to be an integral one for Joe Mantegna’s character of David Rossi. This is a chance for him to resolve the investigation into serial killer Tommy Yates, a case that has plagued him for quite a long time — even when the man was in prison.

Judging from the latest sneak peek below, this is also a case that he feels particularly invested in. While Prentiss sent Tara and JJ to assist him in the latest interview, he really declines that support and goes in alone. You can see in the lead-up to this interview precisely how much care he is taken, and how sorry is to her over what has transpired.

We do like that the show really slows things down here when it comes to its pacing. There are so many episodes of this show and so many cases that there are times in which things could easily start to become clinical and there could be a sort of numbness associated with the cases and the characters affected. This pacing allows you to get more of a personal look on the characters and what they’re going through. There may also be a further degree of emotion that comes out of this particular story since that investment is already there; we already have the original version of this story in “Profiling 101” out there in the universe.

We’ll see what happens over the course of this hour, but our feeling is that if you love “Criminal Minds” and in particular the Rossi character, this is especially an episode that you’re going to want to watch live.
