‘Game of Thrones’ season 7 spoilers: Iain Glen on the scale of things

LogoWith the seventh season of “Game of Thrones” premiering this summer on HBO, the wait is probably more insufferable than ever before. At least with past seasons, there was at least the assurance that the latest new episodes would be coming up in the spring; that’s not happening this time, and to make matters worse, there are only seven episodes that we’re getting before another large hiatus. It’s certainly a little bit different than the ten episodes we’re accustomed to.

Now that we’ve said that, we are starting to get a little bit more of an insight into why the episode count may be smaller: The ones that we’re going to see are significantly more epic than ever before. Speaking per the Radio Times, Iain Glen (who plays the part of Ser Jorah) made it clear that the show is upping the ante in a wide array of different manners as we start to dive further and further into this story:

“They are taking the length of time it takes to shoot ten episodes to shoot just seven this year and six next year … I think the scale and size of the set pieces, the world that is being created, it’s just getting more and more extraordinary and they feel they need that time to shoot seven hours as opposed to ten.”

Given where we are in the story at present, all of this makes sense given we could feasibly have a battle almost every other episode. There’ll likely be a showdown at sea between Daenerys and the fleet from the Iron Islands, and then you also have to think a little bit about what’s inevitably going to be coming at King’s Landing. You also have the impending threat of the White Walkers, which are going to have to be dealt with in some shape or form before long. Otherwise, there’s almost no point in any other battle since everyone will be dead.

Hopefully, Glen speaking out means that Jorah will have more of a presence, and that he somewhere is going to find a cure for that grayscale that has plagued him as of late and sent him off on his own story.
