‘Once Upon a Time’ season 6 spoilers: Show boss on connectivity between worlds

Once Upon A TimeIt is true that on the second half of “Once Upon a Time” this season, you are going to see in particular a great deal of various locations featuring some of the show’s different characters. We obviously have Storybrooke, but at the same time there’s also the alternate-universe where Emma and Regina are coupled with Agrabah (we know that Aladdin and Jasmine are on their way back there) and also the realm where the Black Fairy resides. It’s a lot of story to cover, and with that, isn’t it fair to worry that we’re going to spend so much time bouncing around that there is nothing really to connect all of the stories?

Ultimately, it looks as though we may be worrying a little bit more than we need to. In speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Adam Horowitz makes it clear that despite whatever fears that you may have at present, there is going to be a little bit more connectivity than you would at first predict:

“The second half of the season isn’t like ‘We’re all in the wish realm, we’re all in Agrabah, we’re all in this dark realm.’ It’s a bunch of different things as the story crescendos. We’re trying to change things up a little bit where it’s not just ‘We’re going to be in one place for half a season and just explore that.’ There’s a unifying theme at play in the second half, but it’s not about location, it’s about this story and the conflict between characters.”

As with any other story with this show, the best thing that you can do is try to give it time to see how it develops and leave any judgment at the door. For example, we were worried Hades was going to be exceptionally cheesy, and that proved to be a really good character and a strong storyline; meanwhile, the Dark Swan storyline started out so promising but fizzled out not too long after that. All of these different locations could mesh together into something great! Time will tell.
