‘Saturday Night Live’: Felicity Jones hosting, Sturgill Simpson performing on January 14

SNL -Tonight marked the final episode of “Saturday Night Live” for the calendar year, and of course, with that we were curious to see if the NBC show chose to answer another all-important question: Who the host was going to be for the very first show back in 2017! There are times in which they’ve done this, but then also times when they’ve opted to wait until the start of the next month before the announcement rolls in.

The show was nice enough to confirm their next host tonight, and it is someone who should feel very much familiar to people who are seeing “Rogue One” in theaters this weekend: Felicity Jones! She is coming aboard the series to host for the first time, and she is being joined by Sturgill Simpson. This marks the first appearance for either one of them on the show.

What’s interesting here is that this does mark the second straight occasion in which a “Star Wars” star has come aboard the host the first episode of the new year, given that Adam Driver hosted the first episode of 2016. Could this be a yearly tradition? We wouldn’t mind if Daisy Ridley came and did this next year given that we know she’s talented enough for it. The same goes for John Boyega. After all, “Episode VIII” is coming out next year, and there could be a new movie coming up on an annual basis for quite a long time — provided of course that the movies continue to make a ton of money.

We don’t know a whole lot about Jones’ comedic abilities, but we do think that she is going to be more than fine in the role.
