Ratings: ‘Survivor’ drops; ‘Saturday Night Live’ and ‘A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving’ solid

Survivor -

Wednesday night wasn’t exactly a killer night when it comes to television ratings, so with that, we have a significantly smaller mount to discuss over the course of this article than usual.

Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X” – Of course, the show  was down versus the week before, and that was expected given that this was the night before Thanksgiving — there’s a reason many people don’t even program on this night. What may be somewhat of a surprise here is how much it dropped versus the comparable show back in 2015. The “Survivor Cambodia: Second Chance” Thanksgiving Eve episode averaged a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic; meanwhile, this one averaged just a 1.5.

Let’s be clear: “Survivor” is not in any danger of being canceled. However, we don’t want to see it drop in the ratings, especially for a season that is as a whole this strong. Plus, if it does keep losing 10% year-to-year (it’s down 12% so far versus “Cambodia”), eventually down the road you could be at a point where you have to start wondering about its future.

Saturday Night Live” Thanksgiving – It was basically a compilation of great Turkey Day sketches, which is super-easy for NBC to produce. It also drew a 1.6 rating, which means that this is something that NBC is probably going to continue to churn out for many years to come moving forward.

“A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” – With a 1.9 rating, this special easily won the night, which shouldn’t really be much of a shock just because this is perfect family entertainment that puts everything in perspective. ABC can probably continue to air this for decades and get good ratings.
