‘The Flash’ season 3, episode 7 theory: Is the ‘who is Alchemy’ story over?
Tonight, “The Flash” delivered many excellent stories, but one of the biggest ones took place in the closing minutes where we had some much-needed verification that Julian Albert was in fact more than meets the eye.
(Of course, there are some spoilers ahead.)
If you stop for a moment to think about it, everything makes a considerable amount of sense now. Julian hates meta-humans, and one of the reasons why is because he believes that so many of them have pure evil in their hearts. After seeing him with Alchemy, we’ve got a much better sense as to where that comes from than we ever did before. This is someone who feels haunted and tormented by Savitar, a man who seems to be forcing him to don that mask against his will. We have no reason to think that Julian only suddenly became Alchemy; instead, he’s probably just trying to avoid the burden of it, and is completely under Savitar’s control anytime that he dresses up in that costume.
Now that we do seem to know this, there is another question worth asking: What exactly does Savitar want with all of this, and how was he created? Was he also the result of Flashpoint in some way? The only thing that we can think about right now in terms of a motive is that this character seems to be obsessed with the idea of power and being a “god,” and therefore he wants worshippers. Having a group of meta-humans under his disposal is a prime way in which to do just that. Also, maybe it protects him further from future threats.
If there is one big of good news that comes out of the revelation that Julian and Alchemy are one in the same, it’s that there may be a way to get him out of this position. If he was to learn that Barry was The Flash, maybe he’d reach out to him and the team at STAR Labs in order to help him avoid taking on some of these powers.
Let’s close this with something that blew our mind: Alchemy uses the Philosopher’s Stone in order to grant humans powers. Meanwhile, the original title for first Harry Potter novel was Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Tom Felton, of course, is best known for being Draco Malfoy.
