Donald Trump, Alec Baldwin exchange words in latest ‘Saturday Night Live’ back-and-forth

SNL -In what is probably one of the least-surprising headlines of the day, Donald Trump has an opinion about what transpired on this past episode of “Saturday Night Live” — and it also happens to be a controversial one given the stance that he’s taking.

In a post on Twitter (one of his favorite methods of communication), Trump claimed that the show hosted by Kristen Wiig last night contained “nothing funny,” while also asking about “equal time” being given to both Democrat and Republican sensibilities. There are a couple of things to unpack here:

1. Trump is right about equal time being important … during an election. After that, “SNL” may as well be the last as “Last Week Tonight” with its perspective. To be fair, “SNL” used to be more down-the-middle politically, but you often go with the flow and with the sensibilities of your cast and writers.

2. We actually think “SNL” made fun of liberals more last night than all season, making a sketch around a bubble-city where their viewpoint could be expressed while also mocking the media during a CNN sketch.

Anyhow, in what is not surprising news to anyone, Donald Trump impersonator Alec Baldwin eventually came back with a response of his own, one that is a pretty clear reflection of what we expected him. Without getting too political, the thing we don’t understand about Trump here is why he wants to offer up so much publicity to a show that he is so vehemently against. After all, in doing this aren’t you only going to drive even more publicity in the show’s direction? You’d think so.

Anyway, we can’t tell Baldwin how to live his life, or even how to run his Twitter account. This is just the sort of odd stuff that doesn’t make sense if the goal is anything other than to fuel the fire and hand down extra publicity.
