‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Kristen Wiig and the Mannequin Challenge

SNL -The writers over at “Saturday Night Live” are absolutely exhausting themselves at the moment, and for some evidence of that, you don’t have to look any further than the promo below! The show is airing a new episode this coming weekend hosted by Kristen Wiig (who we personally think is hilarious, so it should be a good episode), and for their first promo they decided to recreate the now-famous Mannequin Challenge in a really impressive way.

Probably the most impressive thing about this (at least to us) is that it was all seemingly done in one shot, and there was some people moving around. Remember, these are people working on their seventh new episode in the past eight weeks, and that has to take its toll when you consider the show’s hours. Add to that an especially emotional episode hosted by Dave Chappelle this past weekend and this team has to be getting burnt out.

In some ways, we consider this promo to be the writers turning the page. There’s nothing political in here for the first time all season and instead it’s bringing us pure fun and silliness. Bonus points to Bobby Moynihan and Mikey Day for dressing up as the skeletons from the famed David S. Pumpkins sketch from the Tom Hanks episode earlier this year. This was a sketch so genius, even Chappelle referenced it himself on his episode.

As for what Wiig will be bringing to the table during her second turn as host, we have high hopes. One thing that is interesting is that with Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones already on the show, a good 75% of the “Ghostbusters” cast will be present. If they can get former “SNL” host Melissa McCarthy to stop by, then they could do a sketch that is all about the film — or at the very least a mention. Other than that, there’s a chance for several classic Wiig characters like Gilly or the Target Lady to show up. All we ask is please, no return for The Californians.
