‘The Flash’ season 2, episode 5 video: Caitlin Snow’s mother runs some tests

Caitlin -

In just a matter of a few short hours from now, the latest episode of “The Flash” will be coming on the air. What should you expect? With a title like “Monster,” the writers are really leaving themselves rather open to a wide array of different possibilities — and that is true even more so with Caitlin Snow’s mother (pictured above) entering the fray.

Before we dive too far into the sneak peek below, we do first want to make it clear how interesting a choice the writers made in not having Caitlin immediately try to share the news about her powers with the other employees at STAR Labs. On the surface, this is clearly the move that would’ve made the most sense for them to pull off. After all, she trusts them implicitly, and doesn’t seem to have much of a good bond with her mother. It’s with this in mind that we’re able to interpret what is going on here as further proof that Caitlin views these powers as a painful secret, and one that she does not trust with the people she intimately cares for. The irony is that her mother is not one of these said people.

The sneak peek is geared around a test, one that Caitlin undergoes to show her mother the full length of her powers. For someone still getting used to having them, she really can do some pretty serious damage to a sheet of heated tungsten. This is the jumping-off point to whatever advice her mother offers her next.

Here’s the real issue in the end: Whatever Caitlin’s mom passes on, there’s no guarantee that her daughter will trust it or go along with it. Just remember for a minute here that endearing yourself to someone else is a big part of trust, and Caitlin’s probably not feeling that right now.
