‘Agents of SHIELD’ to have thematic crossover with ‘Doctor Strange’
While “Agents of SHIELD” did not really have too much to do with another Marvel property in season 3 — other than the setup to failed series attempt “Marvel’s Most Wanted” — the show is really upping the ante for season 4 when it comes to tying this show and its characters back to established Marvel properties and ideas. First, you’ve got Ghost Rider coming aboard to give the show potentially a little bit of a bump. Then, you’ve also now got the news that there could at least be some sort of thematic carry-over between this show and “Doctor Strange” when that movie hits theaters.
In explaining precisely what exactly this means, just take a look at what executive producer Jed Whedon said on the subject in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly:
“Our ties are at times very direct and at times are more thematic … The tie this year will feel more of a reflection of the movie, less an interweaving plot. As that movie hits the world, it comes at the right time in our show, and you will see some of those same ideas being explored.”
Sure, it would be nice to see Benedict Cumberbatch popping over to this show in some shape or form, but given that the odds of this happening are extremely unlikely, we’re going to be very much thrilled with anything that gives these two projects a sense of synergy. Anything that could make fans of the movies more interested in “Agents of SHIELD” is something we support — especially since this is a show that really could use the ratings at this point.
