‘Saturday Night Live’ adds ‘America’s Got Talent’ alum Melissa Villaseñor, Alex Moffat
Has “Saturday Night Live” officially set in stone their season 42 cast? We cannot say that for certain just yet, but we do know at least two new additions now to go along with Mikey Day.
First, let’s start with the name that really surprised us in a good way: Melissa Villaseñor. We know that she is a good impressionist, having appeared many years ago on “America’s Got Talent.” She is the first former contestant to become a cast member here, and that is a good story that further bolsters the series’ ability to find talent. With Jay Pharoah gone, it is probably a good thing that the series was able to uncover someone else who really does have a wide array of impression skills. With more than two million views on the video below, she also does have an audience out there already.
As for the other newcomer in Alex Moffat, we’re not as familiar with his work other than knowing that he is an improv performer who has honed his craft with The Second City, which means that he is coming into the show with a similar skill set to so many other great cast members over the years.
What these hires mean to the rumors that Chris Redd, an accomplished comic and “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping” actor, would be joining the show remains to be seen. It certainly doesn’t look as likely as it did a few days ago, since we assumed that NBC would want to announce all of their names all at one time.
The new season of “SNL” is going to premiere officially come October 1. The first host has not been officially announced as of yet.
