‘America’s Got Talent’ finalist spotlight: The Clairvoyants

Clairvoyants -With the finale of “America’s Got Talent,” or at least the performance portion of it, only a matter of days away, now does feel like the time to start to wind down our finalist spotlight series. We’ve got two more acts to profile, and with The Clairvoyants in particular we have one of the biggest unknown entities there is. We could see them finishing outside the top five on the night, or we could see them winning. Much of that could just depend on the quality of acts on the night.

While this makes the duo a little bit harder to break down in this article, at the same time we much prefer the element of unpredictability they will bring to the show.

Path to date – Like Brian Justin Crum, The Clairvoyants are another consistently strong act who has never needed any sort of Save or Golden Buzzer to get to where they are now. They’ve conquered every challenge and earned praise along the way by confusing and/or astounding people with their illusions.

Strengths – As “mentalists,” the objective is to create an act that is so whimsical and entertaining that you don’t frustrate yourself wondering how the trick is done. It’s about execution and style, and they deliver on that enough that it’s easy to suspend belief while watching them. Thommy Ten and Amélie van Tass are excellent showmen, and their command of the stage mixed with their creativity are the reasons why they are so effective.

Weaknesses – This is in a sense like juggling, where if you make one small mistake, you run the risk of ruining the entire showcase. There is very little margin of error here, and that makes this act one of higher risk than some others performing in the finals. The only other thing potentially hurting The Clairvoyants is having to go against another popular magic act in Jon Dorenbos, who may be a little more of a familiar face thanks to his NFL career.

Odds of winning – Moderate. We’re not confident enough to call them favorites, and we actually think their likely placement is somewhere around 3rd place. Do we think they’d be great winners? Absolutely, given that they are one of the few acts along with maybe Linkin’ Bridge and Tape Face, who we think are fully ready to anchor a show right now. Yet, the vote will be in America’s hands.
