‘America’s Got Talent’ finalist spotlight: Linkin’ Bridge

Everyone loves a good underdog story, right? For Linkin’ Bridge on “America’s Got Talent” this season, we certainly think that they’ve got one of the best ones. They’ve overcome a lot of rough times in their lives to get to this point, and at the same time they’ve overcome a lot in this competition. Following their performance where they needed a save from the judges to advance to the semifinals, we almost wrote them off as contenders. Then, America came through for them after their cover of “7 Years,” one that we found to be incredibly moving from start to finish.

So what are their odds now to persevere and make it all the way to the summit? In this new finalist spotlight piece, we want to do our part in order to figure that out better.

Path so far – While they’ve been memorable across some various points of the competition, they also have been at times under the radar. They’ve never had the benefit of the golden buzzer, they’ve had to work a little bit harder at times to get to the next round, and even on this past semifinal show they performed reasonably early in the program. Yet, they’ve persevered at almost every step.

Strengths – Let’s not shy away from the fact that all of these guys are extremely talented singers with a ton of ability. They harmonize really well together, and they have a story that feels in lockstep to the idealism of the American Dream. Seeing them as winners is the sort of conclusion almost any fan would be excited about, even those who support other people.

Weaknesses – They’re not always the flashiest of the remaining acts, and so much of their success is heavily dependent on song choice. One of the reasons why this past performance probably worked for them is because of the fact that they did a song that is so emotionally resonant to people who love “7 Years” at present.

Odds of winning – Given the mixed results so far, we don’t feel good about picking them to be winner favorites. Yet, we do think they’ve got a shot to finish in the top five or even top three. They would probably need a combination of a brilliant song choice and really good placement within the show to have a reasonable shot at winning.
