‘Big Brother 18’ episode 30 review: Tropical storm Paul
Can you believe that we’re a whopping thirty episodes into “Big Brother” this summer? Think about it: We’ve spent more than a full day so far this summer watching shenanigans in this house. That’s a crazy amount of time, and tonight CBS rewarded us to a certain extent with a fairly fun episode.
First things first, kudos on the Veto Competition! From the weather report-reading to the shark flying around to the little production touches, this was a lot of fun and one of our new favorites this season. It had a strong mental component, and sometimes it’s hard to make things excited. As you knew from the live feeds, Paul won the Veto and used it on himself. Corey in turn is up in the place of Victor.
Paul was basically a storm unto himself for most of the episode. At first, he did a great job of getting people back on his side after nominations — with maybe some revisionist history from Michelle in the Diary Room about how she wanted him gone the whole time he was making Natalie cry with his pitch. After that, he bungled it by being a little too confident and demanding, which could have been played up more.
Also, seeing Corey strip down in the middle of an argument between Paul and Nicole was awkward and glorious.
Of course, we know the opponents to Natalie / James are going to be frustrated that the edit did not address whether or not the Diary Room influenced Natalie (which was actually more applicable during Sunday’s episode), or James trying to offer $10,000 to Nicole / Natalie / Corey post-show as a way to cement their trust. (He did get in trouble for it on the feeds.) The reality here is that there are reasons to be frustrated with these two this week, and we do hate that James got a slap on the wrist for offering to split winnings. Yet, at the same time we do think that targeting Paul was right right move, and Victor’s the next-best option now. Episode Grade: B+.
