‘Gotham’ season 3 spoilers: Don’t expect more Joker mythology soon

Gotham -

During the opening episodes of “Gotham” season 2, the producers certainly made the decision to have the story of Jerome burn, and burn extremely bright, over the course of the first few episodes. While we were never 100% sure that this side of the character was going to someday become the famed Batman villain, at the same time we were fairly confident at the very least that he was going to live longer than he did.

With that in mind, we’re now in a position where we have to look at this character in the rear-view mirror, even though for the most part we’ve gotten the indication that this is a character who lives on in other ways. After all, we did get a chance to hear that infamous laugh during the season 2 finale! While that was an intentional move, executive producer Ken Woodruff made it clear to TV Guide that you really cannot expect to see much of the Joker or an equivalent in the flash over the course of the coming weeks:

“[The laugh] was really to keep [the Joker] alive, to keep Jerome and that threat of the Joker alive. We wanted to make sure fans don’t feel that we’re completely done with [the mythology of the Joker] because we are 100 percent, absolutely not … [But,] it’s not going to be something we delve into right way at the top of the season.”

Ultimately, it’s very well possible that this will be similar to the show’s long-rumored Harley Quinn plans, one that we will see explored at some point on the show. Yet, provided that nothing terrible happens in the ratings, there may not be any pressure for that to happen anytime soon.
